Paulownia tomentosa, also known as the Princess Tree or Empress Tree, is one of the most iconic and widely cultivated Paulownia species in the world. Native to China, this pure species is admired for its exceptionally fast growth, huge heart-shaped leaves and spectacular lavender-white blossoms that fill the spring air with a light vanilla fragrance.
Unlike hybrids designed for maximum timber output, tomentosa is prized for its ornamental beauty, ecological value and versatility. It is commonly planted in gardens, parks, boulevards, agroforestry systems and reforestation projects, thanks to its adaptability to a wide range of soils and climates.
Each bare-root cutting from KiriGreen is premium Grade A, hand-selected for health and size. Root cuttings are the most economical and reliable way to start a plantation — each is a segment of root that develops into a new, genetically identical plant, prepared for spring planting to ensure rapid establishment and vigorous growth from the first year.
This format is particularly suited to ornamental planting, gardens and parks, urban landscaping, agroforestry, reforestation and multipurpose plantations.

Advantages of Root Cuttings
- The most economical way to start a Paulownia plantation, ideal for trials and large-scale projects.
- Each cutting develops its own roots and shoots, producing a plant genetically identical to the parent.
- Simple to establish: planted inclined at 45°, thicker end up, fully buried a few centimetres below the surface.
- A free growing guide is included with every order to help you get the best possible results.
